The context
Saint-Lô Hospital is a public hospital serving the Manche area. It handles around 40,000 acute care (MCO) stays a year and has 520 beds and more than 1,500 staff. With activity running high and fewer staff in the Medical Information Department (DIM) after a retirement, the challenge is to keep PMSI coding complete and traceable without adding to the teams’ daily workload.
The solution
Parallel’s AI agents analyze stays on a routine basis. Each month, the AI reviews the previous month’s stays and compares the care recorded in each stay’s documents with the hospital’s initial coding. It then proposes additional complications and comorbidities (CMA) that comply with PMSI standards.
- Strengthen the quality of PMSI coding while DIM resources are reduced after a retirement and activity is growing
- Improve the traceability of coding decisions with documented justifications
- Identify relevant revaluations faster, without significant workload for the IT department
Results
- €2,100 average revaluation per stay
- +€660,000 in projected annual revaluations
- 70% validation rate
